Two ways to buy
A direct order suits standard products with a clear listed price and quantity. An RFQ suits custom specs, large volumes, or when you want several suppliers to compete.
Decision rule
- Spec is standard and the price is listed → order directly from the marketplace.
- Spec is custom, volume is large, or delivery terms vary → post an RFQ.
Writing an RFQ that gets answers
State the product, specification, quantity, target Incoterm, destination port and deadline. Vague requests get silence. See our guide on writing an RFQ that gets quotes.
Comparing quotes
Compare landed cost, not unit price: add freight, duties and payment costs. A cheaper FOB quote can be the more expensive deal once delivered.
